GFA Project
Moldova is currently implementing a project on HIV/AIDS prevention in vocational schools
Representatives of Ministry of Education, Office of German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) in Kiev and Chisinau, GFA Consulting Group GmbH in Germany, „CMB” Training Center and directors of four pilot vocational schools from Cahul, Stefan Voda, Floresti and Alexandreni (Sangerei) attended during 14-15 September this year, a workshop on "HIV/AIDS Prevention in Eastern Europe", the component for Moldova.
The project is initiated by the German Office for Technical Cooperation and implemented in Ukraine, Moldova and Belarus, where, according to estimates of specialists, the number of new cases of HIV / AIDS has doubled in the last 5 years, the growth rate of infections in Moldova and Ukraine being the highest in the region. Among the factors that favor an adverse epidemiological situation in Moldova are: increased flow of migration, the gaps in educational system, low knowledge among the rural population on ways of transmission and methods of HIV prevention.
In order to enhance the understanding of young people of the issues related to HIV/AIDS, the project "HIV/AIDS Prevention in Eastern Europe - component for Moldova" aims to reinforce preventive behaviors on HIV infection among youth from Moldovian vocational schools. Thus, through this project, four vocational schools in Moldova will take measures to prevent the spread of HIV among young people by including in the curriculum a program focused on promoting healthy lifestyle. Development and piloting of the new curriculum focused on promoting a healthy lifestyle, will take place in vocational schools in Cahul (Vocational School no. 1), Stefan Voda, Floresti and Alexandreni (Sangerei). If the respective course will have a positive impact, then it’s possible to be implemented at the national level.
The project ‶HIV/AIDS Prevention in Eastern Europe - component for Moldova” is implemented by the German Office of Technical Cooperation in partnership with the Ministry of Education of Moldova (the main partner in adopting the HIV/AIDS curriculum in vocational schools nationwide), GFA Consulting Group GmbH, Germany, and ‶CMB” Training Center, which has the role of the national implementing agency.
The workshops are part of this project and have the following objectives: establish a joint work plan, discuss the measures for sustainability of the project, review of curriculum models, tools and implementation strategies. The next workshop with key actors responsible for this field will be held in early December 2009. The pilot phase of the project will end in November 2010 with the completion of the testing and piloting the curriculum on healthy lifestyle in all four vocational schools selected.
